Library Training

Training kids to use a school library effectively involves a combination of orientation, hands-on activities, and continuous support. Start with a guided tour of the library to familiarize them with the layout, including sections like fiction, non-fiction, reference materials, and multimedia resources. Explain the library’s catalog system, whether it’s the Dewey Decimal System or a digital catalog, to help them locate books and other materials independently.

Next, engage them in interactive activities that reinforce their learning. For example, organize scavenger hunts where they must find specific books or information using the catalog system. Teach them how to check out books, use library computers, and respect library rules, such as maintaining silence and properly handling books. These activities make learning fun and memorable.

Finally, provide continuous support by having regular library sessions where kids can ask questions and receive help. Encourage them to explore different genres and subjects, fostering a love for reading and learning. Offer workshops or reading clubs to keep them engaged and ensure they feel comfortable and confident using the library resources.

Chapel

Chapel services in an elementary school setting are foundational for the development of Christian faith at an early age. These services provide a consistent opportunity for children to engage in worship, prayer, and reflection, helping them to internalize the practices and values of their faith. We also have Christmas Chapels in November with a focus on shoeboxes filled with gifts for Operation Christmas Child as well as toys for the Shelby Baptist Association. By participating in these specific activities, young children learn the importance of giving and develop a routine that reinforces their spiritual growth.

In addition to fostering a sense of community, chapel services offer a space for children to hear and understand biblical teachings in a way that is accessible and relevant to their age group. Through stories, songs, and interactive sermons, children can grasp the core tenets of Christianity and see how these principles apply to their daily lives. This early exposure helps to build a strong foundation of faith that can guide them through their formative years and beyond.

Moreover, chapel services encourage children to develop a personal relationship with God. By creating an environment where children feel comfortable expressing their faith and asking questions, chapel helps to nurture a deeper, more personal connection with their spirituality. This early engagement is crucial for instilling a lifelong commitment to their faith and for helping them to grow into compassionate, morally grounded individuals.

Music

Music classes are incredibly important for young children as they contribute significantly to their overall development. Engaging in music helps to enhance children’s cognitive abilities, including memory, attention, and problem-solving skills. Learning to read music and play instruments also fosters fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, which are essential for their physical development.

In addition to cognitive and physical benefits, music classes play a crucial role in the emotional and social development of young children. Music provides an outlet for self-expression and creativity, allowing children to explore their emotions in a safe and constructive way. Group music activities, such as singing in a choir or playing in an ensemble, teach children important social skills like teamwork, cooperation, and communication.

Furthermore, music education can instill a lifelong appreciation for the arts and culture. Exposure to different genres and styles of music broadens children’s cultural horizons and helps them to develop a more well-rounded perspective. By fostering a love for music at an early age, children are more likely to continue engaging with and appreciating music throughout their lives, enriching their personal and social experiences.

Art

Art classes in a Christian school are vital for fostering the creative and spiritual development of students. These classes provide a unique opportunity for children to explore their artistic talents while reflecting on their faith. Through various art projects, students can express their understanding of biblical stories and Christian values, deepening their connection to their faith in a personal and meaningful way.

Moreover, art classes help to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential for a well-rounded education. By engaging in creative activities, students learn to approach problems from different perspectives and develop innovative solutions. This creative thinking is not only beneficial for their academic growth but also aligns with the Christian principle of using one’s talents to serve and inspire others.

Additionally, art classes in a Christian school promote a sense of community and collaboration among students. Working on group projects and sharing their artwork with peers fosters a supportive environment where children can learn from and encourage each other. This sense of community is integral to the Christian ethos of fellowship and mutual support, helping students to grow both as individuals and as members of a faith-based community.
